Regarding the caller who thinks that the senior service levy should be left to die of natural causes: Not all seniors have family members to care for them nor do they all have churches or organizations to help them. That’s when elderly services come into play. As an adult child caring for my 79-year-old mother, who has Alzheimer’s, I can’t be in the home 24/7. She is widowed and I am her only child. Luckily, I am financially able to quit working during her time of need, but every penny is counted. The levy funds services in the Butler County area that allow me to have some time to myself to shop, pick up prescriptions, go to my own doctor’s appointments, etc. Families are doing this work every day on every street in Butler County. We just need a helping hand every now and again, that is structured and that we can count on. ...
