My husband and I, on Nov. 11, attended the funeral services for the former assistant fire chief of Fairfield Twp. It was a beautiful service by the minister and also their new color guard. The reading of the last call by the fire chief was great and the ringing of the bells sent chills all over us. This is the first time we ever saw this done. Then — being Veterans Day — the chief recognized and honored our veterans and also honored our men and women who are protecting our country. Thank you to the Fairfield Twp. Fire Department. You do a great job for our township. We also know the former assistant fire chief and his sister would be very pleased.

To the sports writers: It is so good that you finally will quit writing about the pathetic Miami RedHawks — only because the season is over. I’ve been so aggravated. Many of my friends have said the same thing. Every time they open the sports page, the first thing they see is Miami. If they were winning and were like UC, it would be different. ...

I always thought of Joe Morgan as a real hero and an all-American. Now I see he has sold his name just to sell Japanese cars. How disappointing. ...

Regarding the major who (is charged in the killings of) the 13 people in Fort Hood and officials are not thinking about giving him the death sentence: Hey, there shouldn’t be a sentence. There shouldn’t be a court. There shouldn’t be anything. They should stand him up and just kill him, like he did those young people. Those boys are people’s husbands, sons, brothers, their loved ones. He didn’t think of us. He should be tortured. No court.

The reason the media hates Sarah Palin is because she truly, honestly connects with the majority of the people in this country and — just like Rush Limbaugh always says — conservatism is real, true compassion, not this (nonsense) you get from liberals. Conservatism is truly compassionate to people. Sarah Palin proves this. That’s why the media can’t stand the woman and that just shows you what liberals truly are. They are all about themselves and they really don’t care about other people.
