The first Indian Lake Open Ice Fishing Challenge will be held
Jan. 28.

Participants may fish anywhere on Indian Lake that day with prizes offered in two youth divisions and one adult division.

“This is our first time trying this event and hopefully this works out well enough to continue year after year,” said organizer Greg Pyles.

In addition to the adult division, youths 10-and-under and youths 17-and-under divisions will be contested. There will be entry fees for the two older divisions. You can fish for bluegills, crappies or saugeyes, or all three.

The event is sponsored by the Indian Lake Eagles Aerie 3615. Registration (starting at 7 a.m.) and the weigh-in (at 5:30 p.m.) will be at the Eagles Club.

For more information, visit indianlake.com or call (937) 243-4739. In case ice conditions are unsafe, a later date will be announced.

Antique tackle

The third annual Antique Fishing Lure and Tackle Clinic is scheduled for Jan. 17-22 in north Dayton.

The event is free and will be held each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (noon to 4 p.m. Sunday) at the Second Time Around Fishing Tackle Shop, 8640 North Dixie Drive.

You can bring in old fishing tackle items to be appraised and — if you desire — sold to a collector. Experts will be different each day.

Here’s the lineup: Jan. 17, Gary Overton; Jan. 18, Tim & T.C. Holtz; Jan. 19, John Kleiber;
Jan. 20, Mike Hines; Jan. 21, Gary Domi; and Jan 22, Jeff Seitner.

For more information, call (937) 475-7997.

Bass league set

Al Horstman, owner and operator of the Waterscape fishing lakes in Carlisle, has created the Greater Miami Valley Amateur Sport Fishing League called Basscatchers.

The league, which is open to the public, not just Waterscape members, will operate with two-person teams. There is a $50 per person fee with a maximum of 64 teams. Each team will compete in two three-hour events per month, May through August, with playoffs in September. Artificial bait only will be permitted.

Electric-powered watercraft will be provided to each team. A seminar on league rules, lake knowledge and safety is mandatory.

For more information, visit
waterscapefishingclub.com or call (937) 271-3735. The deadline to sign up for Basscatchers is
March 31.
