Location & description
J. Percy Priest Dam is visible from Interstate 40 along the Stones River. It is conveniently located about ten miles east of downtown Nashville and impounds a lake 42 miles long. J. Percy Priest Lake covers portions of Davidson, Rutherford, and Wilson Counties and consists of 14,200 surface acres of water
Boating
The average depth of J. Percy Priest Lake is 28.7 feet. The deepest part of J. Percy Priest Lake is in the main river channel about 1/2 mile upstream of the dam at approximately 100’. It is designated as a “No Discharge” lake by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, and all recreational vessels must use vessel pumpout facilities provided by project marinas.
Fishing
The most popular species include largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, striped bass, Cherokee bass, and white bass. Other species such as catfish, bluegill, bream, and trout provide excellent opportunities for young anglers. A valid Tennessee state fishing license is required.
Marinas
J. Percy Priest Lake offers four commercial marinas and one municipal marina that provide a wide variety of services for visitors to the lake. To encourage boaters to follow “No Discharge” policy regarding proper disposal of treated or untreated sewage, each marina provides vessel pumpout services for a small fee.
