A considerate smoker

Monday, December 25, 2006

I would like to respond to the person who wrote about the smoking ban in Ohio in the JournalNews Dec. 14. They said, "Think of others, be considerate and quit complaining and whining."

Extras

I agree with this person (that) the smoking ban was voted on and passed. I can't control that.

However, think of this: When a person goes to a bar or club to have a drink and relax (and when a person wants to relax, and they smoke, that helps relax them), you know people smoke there.

If you were concerned about getting cancer from secondhand smoke, don't go to the bar or club. I feel that is taking other people's rights away because we have "whiners" who don't smoke and are afraid to catch something ... .

And I'm sorry, but most restaurants that allowed smoking had nonsmoking and smoking sections. You had that option to get the nonsmoking section ... .

... Yes, I am a smoker, but I am considerate of others. I have a grandpa and a 10-year-old and a 7-year-old; also a husband who has asthma. I smoke outside my home and do not smoke in the car with them in it. ...

'Nothing better to do?'

I am a resident (of) Dayton, Ohio, and I am shocked by the article "Callers complain to shelter about serving illegals". How can a human being have that much nerve to spy on a food shelter and want the immigrants not to be given food and other materials? How do those people even know the foreign-looking people are immigrants? Just because they are not Caucasian and wearing a NASCAR hat does not mean we have to check their background. Seems to me that the Jim Crow laws are still in effect in Hamilton.

I am in favor of all the immigrants, legal and non-. The

Hispanic community is a

well-respected, hardworking group of people. If these people were dying of hunger, I wonder if those complainers would help them? Do those complainers have nothing better to do than spy and take pictures of people attending shelters?

'Put a stop to this'

I would just like to thank the criminal who stole my children's inflatable snowmen. You guys are setting a true meaning of Christmas to those in Lindenwald. It is one thing to break in our cars but stealing our Christmas decorations is another ... Most people work hard for what they have; then you come along and take it. I'm sick of it. It's time for all of us to put a stop to this. We need police and the community to get involved. Where has the spirit of Christmas gone?

'Do we want ...?'

Do we want another 1,000 soldiers killed in the next two years before G.W. Bush's reign ends? Do we want another $140 billion in funding approved and spent to line his cohorts' pockets in the name of rebuilding Iraq ...? Do we want to continue alienating the rest of the world for another two years? Or do we want to take action now and impeach this lying bag of tricks? We want the last option and we want it pronto!
