Regarding the article in the Sept. 1 JournalNews about Donna Trevino trying to get legal standing: All she is doing is victimizing her son all over again. She didn't care or take care of her child and now she wants to monetary gain from his death. I think it is an outrage and she should be ashamed. In my opinion, she brings shame upon the female sex.

In regard to the people who are saying we need to go back to having children's homes since the death of Marcus, I agree with them. I think they got love and care there, whereas the people who are watching children now are just in it for the money. Maybe every now and then you get one who cares, but it doesn't appear to be that many. I think we should take the money that is spent and open up a children's home.

I am sick to my stomach to think that these people could do something like this to a small child. They should have the same thing done to them. We should put them in a closet and leave them there, wrapped up.

Thank you, Peggy Herr, for your letter of Aug. 31. It is about time someone stated the obvious once again. The rules of the Catholic Church, in most cases, are rules determined by men, not by God and — as such — they can be changed by men and by women. Being anti-women, anti-family planning, anti-gay — among other anti-s — are positions taken by male clergy at whatever time, for whatever self-serving reasons — not for or by the will of God. The church will say, "God says this"; no, men trying and not succeeding to play God said this.

I returned from the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati. They will have a 9/11 exhibit (which) came from all over the world. People sent different things in, children and adults from all over the world. If you have not been to the Freedom Center, this is your chance to know that America is truly a great nation. I hope everyone will go to see this most moving exhibit. It will start Sept. 8. Please stop doing what you are doing and go to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center to see the exhibit on 9/11. They have the fireman uniforms that they wore.

I agree with the guy who said how Hamilton was considered a really good place to live. I drive around in Fairfield and it is always so clean. You see city workers trimming grass. You don't see any paper or trash on the street. If you come up through the Second Ward, East Avenue or whatever, Hamilton is the nastiest city in these areas. People do not, like he said, pick up trash in the front of their houses. It doesn't take much to go out there with a plastic bag and pick up trash. The city should start giving out citations, fine these people and — if they don't do anything about it — fine them again and send them to court.

I find it odd that the Republican Party can claim that they have done anything to better the country, even the world, the past six years. Bush, a spoiled brat, started a war on lies — to be popular and to strengthen the White House oil cartel — Bush, Cheney, Rice and Rumsfeld. Bush is the one who gave the money away in tax revenue, again to be popular. He had to borrow to do that and now the national debt is off the chart. Clinton had a balanced budget and a happier world. By the way, Republicans back the "haves" and the "have mores," as Bush put it at one of his parties.

This is a heads up to my neighbors on Glenway Drive in Hamilton. It appears someone is helping themselves to our mailboxes. I had a turquoise bracelet stolen out of my mailbox on Aug. 21. I want everyone to keep an eye out on what's going on.
