Jamie Banks, 36, is charged with discharging weapons under disability, a third-degree felony, after he allegedly fired four shots Monday morning at two of his dogs who were fighting outside his home in the 6900 block of Lesley Lane.

He also was charged with drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and discharging weapons within city limits, said Lt. Jimmy Cunningham from the Middletown police department.

Banks’ girlfriend, Maranda Vormwald, 26, is charged with obstructing official business, police said. She failed to appear Wednesday morning and an arrest warrant was issued, according to court records.

After Banks and Vormwald were arrested, Middletown police found Amanda Banks, 34, of Lesley Lane, hiding in the basement. She was charged with drug abuse/methamphetamine and a bench warrant for failure to comply by Middletown police.

When police were transporting Banks to the City Jail, she began seizing, the police report said.

Middletown paramedics were called and they transported her to Atrium Medical Center. At the hospital, a nurse found a folded piece of paper in Banks’ underwear and inside the paper was a crystal substance that appeared to be methamphetamine, police said.

Middletown police were called to the home at 8:40 a.m. on reports that a person and a dog had been shot inside the home. Cunningham said police surrounded the residence and gave numerous verbal commands for the residents to walk outside. After 15 minutes, Banks exited the home, Cunningham said. Then a few minutes later, he was followed by his girlfriend.

Cunningham said Banks allegedly fired the shots at two pit bulls that were fighting in the back yard. Banks allegedly beat the dogs with sticks, Cunningham said.

The Warren County dog warden took the two dogs into custody, police said. Dog Warden Nathan Harper said the dogs were removed for the safety of the officers. He said the dogs, both male, suffered from bites. The dogs will stay at the shelter until the owners can care for them, Harper said.
