West Chester man charged with child pornography released from jail

A West Chester Twp. man facing felony charges involving child pornography is free from jail.

Larry Dale Staley, 58, of the 8300 block of Birchstone Court, was indicted Oct. 4 by a Butler County grand jury on 20 charges. He was arrested on the indictment warrant and booked into the Butler County Jail.

On Tuesday, Staley was arraigned by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Charles Pater and released on his own recognizance. Staley indicated he was going to hire his own attorney and is scheduled to be back in court Oct. 24 for a pre-trial hearing.

Staley is charged with 13 counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, a fourth-degree felony, and seven counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, a fifth-degree felony.

The alleged crimes occurred on or about Feb. 16, 2016, according to the indictment. The crimes involved images downloaded and there is no indication local children were involved, according to the prosecutor’s office.

West Chester Police executed a search warrant at Staley’s residence on Feb. 16, 2016, and “contraband was located,” according to the report.
