Walter Powell, a passenger in a Dodge Ram truck, said as they were driving down the Breiel Boulevard extension toward the Great Miami River around 4 p.m., they applied the brakes but the truck and the trailer, carrying 800 pounds of chunks of concrete, slid on the wet pavement from the afternoon storms.
Lucky for them, Powell said, the light was green and they continued through the intersection, over the embankment and the vehicle was stopped by the heavy bushes and trees. The trailer slid and dumped most of the concrete in the area, Powell said.
“The road was just wet enough it wouldn’t brake and it wouldn’t turn,” said Powell, who added they stopped working at a residence in Shaker Run in Lebanon because of the rain. “It was a fun ride. Glad we didn’t hit any big trees or something.”
The intersection of Breiel Boulevard and Ohio 73 was partially blocked for about an hour as Middletown firefighters and the State Highway Patrol responded. A Sandy’s Towing truck tied a large chain to the back of the trailer and pulled the trailer and truck out of the area.
Then the truck started and the two men drove away. There were no injuries.
