Thief steals cash, 2 beers, cigarettes, bong from Middletown carry-out

A man allegedly broke into a Middletown carry-out and stole $2,000 in cash and checks, two beers, cigarettes and a bong, according to the Middletown police reports.

The suspect broke out the front door glass at Max’s Mart, 2020 Tytus Ave., around 6:15 a.m. Saturday, the report said.

Once inside the store, the thief, heavily dressed in dark pants, boots and coat, went to the cooler area and stole two beers, police said after reviewing the video.

The man tried to open the cash register but was unsuccessful. He then stole several packs of cigarettes and a bong that was in the glass display case.

The man then found a black bank bag that contained about $2,000 in cash and checks, according to the report.

The suspect then left the store through the front door, the report said.
