The Scott brothers are helping the University of Mount Union football team surge toward another possible NCAA Division III national championship.
The top-ranked Purple Raiders (12-0) are seeking their 11th national crown and will host No. 9 Widener (Pa.) in the quarterfinals Saturday at noon. Isaiah and Joshua Scott are Fairfield High School graduates.
Isaiah is a senior defensive back and a first-team selection in the Ohio Athletic Conference, totaling 39 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble. He has a team-leading five interceptions, returning two of those picks for touchdowns, and 10 pass breakups.
Joshua, a sophomore defensive back, has played in every game as well. He has 24 tackles, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
• Thomas More senior defensive back Kenny Veal (Hamilton) was named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Saints’ season-ending 75-6 win over Mount St. Joseph.
Veal had four punt returns for 158 yards, including a 76-yard return for a touchdown. He finished the season with seven returns for a 30.6-yard average, also returning seven kickoffs for a 17.9 average.
Defensively, Veal totaled 40 tackles, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two interceptions for Thomas More (7-3, 6-2 PAC).
Women’s soccer
Junior midfielder Sydnee Fields (Badin) made 15 starts and scored one goal for Xavier, which finished 6-12-1 overall and 1-8 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Men’s golf
Sophomore Korey Ward (Lakota West) was Xavier’s leading scorer this fall with a 72.9 18-hole average. He posted a low round of 65 in five events.
Ward took third place with an 8-under-par 208 in the Musketeers’ final tournament of the fall, the Warrior-Wave Intercollegiate in Princeville, Hawaii.
