Evan Bradds recently set the all-time Greeneview High School boys basketball scoring record. Even more impressive, the career mark stayed in the family.
Bradds, a 6-foot-7 senior front-liner, went for 28 points in a blowout of Ohio Heritage Conference rival Triad in the Division III sectional tournament at Tippecanoe High School. That was enough to push him past has grandfather Gary’s previous Greeneview record of 1,655 points.
“Evan setting the all-time record is really special,” Rams coach Bill Green told the Xenia Daily Gazette. “His grandfather would be really proud of him.”
Bradds, a first team All-Southwest District choice, led Greeneview to three straight OHC titles. He averaged 23.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.1 steals this season. He’s headed to Belmont University at Nashville to play ball.
Greeneview was upset 51-50 by Bethel in its next tourney game.
Gary Bradds was an All-American at Ohio State and was the national player of the year in 1964. He also played in the NBA.
Stivers’ Caldwell makes his points: It looks as if Thurgood Marshall and Dunbar aren’t the only boys basketball beasts of the Dayton City League. Hello, Stivers.
Led by Robert Caldwell, the Tigers are on a D-III Cinderella run. Stivers (17-8) meets Midwest Athletic Conference power Versailles (19-5) in the middle game of a district final tripleheader at UD Arena on Thursday.
Caldwell recently surpassed 1,000 career points. The 6-foot junior guard averages 20.7 points. He was first team All-City, first team All-District 15 and its underclass player of the year, and third team All-Southwest District.
Stivers cut down top-seeded Fenwick 56-50 in last week’s sectional final.
FSU offers Horton: Add Florida State to the list of schools that have made Lakota West running back Mikel Horton an offer.
The junior running back was contacted by Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher last week and extended the offer. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder rushed for 1,003 yards in just 202 carries and nine games last season, leading the Firebirds to an 8-2 record.
Four more: The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association will induct four into its hall of fame for the Class of 2013: The late Bill Cady (LaSalle), Mike Gallagher (Wooster), Carl Wolfe (Racine Southern) and Mark Huffman (Monroe Central).
The ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Columbus Airport Marriott. For ticket information, contact hall of fame director Paul Wayne at pwayne@holgateschools.org
Who’s the best? The Kettering Dor-wood Optimist Club’s annual Tri-star Basketball Pass, Shoot & Dribble Contest will be held on Monday at Fairmont’s Trent Arena.
The event is for boys and girls ages 8-13. Registration beings at 5:30 p.m. and the contest begins at 6. There is no charge.
