New fantasy football column gaining more followers

By Jimmy Dinsmore

I’ve received some positive feedback on my Fantasy Geek column and picked up a few new followers on Twitter.

I’ll be moving a lot of fantasy information and will interact with you and answer questions on that Twitter account. Feel free to follow me @fantasy_geek.

As for Week 8, well, there’s a lot to think about.

Fantasy trend: Many times, fantasy longevity depends on the players you drafted outside of the first couple of rounds. Two such players deserve mention.

Ahmad Bradshaw has now scored a touchdown in every game in October. This can’t be overlooked as Bradshaw has transformed himself into a fantasy factor despite a nagging foot injury. Don’t sweat the injury, and make sure you play him this week against the Cowboys, who he scored against in Week 1.

The other, Josh Freeman, always had a lot of hype. Every year was his breakout year.

I drank the Freeman Kool Aid myself. But, you can’t ignore his last three games where he’s thrown for 299 yards, 328 yards and a Week 7 high 420 yards. And he’s thrown three touchdowns in back-to-back weeks. Don’t go putting him in over the cream of the crop, but if you have the Vicks, Romos and Rivers of the world, consider Freeman a reasonable option to consider.

Fantasy mirage: Santana Moss used to be a top-tier receiver. But those days are over. Last week, Moss caught two big TD passes from Robert Griffin III. But Moss only had three catches and isn’t even leading the Redskins in targets. So, if you’re expecting the Santana Moss of old to be reborn, well, you’ll be very disappointed.

Fantasy scrap heap: I hyped him a week too early, but Larod Stephens-Howling is a nice waiver wire grab. The Cardinals running back showed why he, and not William Powell, deserves your fantasy attention. LSH ran for 104 yards and a score last week and caught four passes for 45 yards. Pull him off your waivers and enjoy a scrap heap gem.

Jets tight end Dustin Keller has always been a highly targeted member of the J-E-T-S. Having battled through injuries most of the year, Keller may be sitting atop your fantasy scrap heap. Go get him, especially in leagues that require tight ends to be started.

Fantasy garbage: Former Bengal Jerome Simpson was a player I hyped up as a late round target. After serving a three-game suspension, Simpson has not integrated himself in the Vikings’ offense. He has all of five catches and you can’t waste a roster spot for this minimal production.

Fantasy frustration: Last week I mentioned one player named Johnson. This week I’m putting Calvin Johnson on this list.

He was a non-factor in Monday night’s game against the Bears. And he hasn’t put up the bloated numbers he did last season. Now, don’t go doing anything crazy like dropping him or even benching him, but know that all of Megatron’s owners are ready for some huge numbers. Probably won’t happen this week against Seattle, but maybe Week 9 at Jacksonville. Stay patient.

Fantasy elation: My constant touting of Chris Johnson finally paid off! He ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns this past weekend. His inconsistency has been frustrating, but as I predicted in last week’s column, he’s turning the corner. And this week he gets the 29th-ranked Colts rush defense. So, more of the same?
