See headlines Butler County Hall of Fame class

Former Middletown cross country and track standout Jeff See is one of 11 people who will be inducted into the 31st Butler County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2012.

See will be joined by Frank Chew, Jeff Cothran, Lois Hall Gleason, Rob Huffman, Tracey Kornau, Matt McIntire, Terry Merz, Bernie Reid, Laura Rullman Weinberger and Rich White in the 11-member class.

The Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Sunday at the Courtyard by Marriott in Hamilton, beginning with a social hour at 5 p.m.. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with the program beginning one hour later. Tickets cost $25 and are available at Tom’s Cigar Store, 135 Main St. in the Hamilton area, or by calling (513) 423-7734 in the Middletown area.

During See’s running career at MHS, he was named Greater Miami Conference runner of the year six times and earned six individual state titles, four in track and two in cross country.

See’s individual track titles came in the 1,600-meter run in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and also the 800 run in 2005. Additionally, See was part of the first-place 3,200-meter relay team in 2005. In cross country, See was the individual state champion in 2003 and in 2004.

See went onto run for The Ohio State University where he earned three Big Ten championships and six All-American honors in both sports.

Chew served in many capacities throughout his career at Madison High School, including as head varsity football and wrestling coach. But he is most notably associated with the sport of track and field.

Chew coached 27 years and amassed more than 250 meet wins. He coached 53 state-qualifying athletes, 17 of whom received All-Ohio recognition. Chew won two Southwestern Buckeye League championships and led the 1994 Madison boys track team to a district championship. In both cross country and track, Chew’s teams placed eight times at the state meet. Chew was inducted into the Madison Hall of Fame in 2002.

Cothran was a standout football player for the Middletown Middies in the late 1980s.

Cothran rushed for 1,850 yards and 21 touchdowns in his senior season (1989). That same year, he was selected to the Greater Miami Conference first team, the All-Ohio first team and was runner-up in the Ohio Mr. Football voting.

Cothran went onto play three years for the Ohio State Buckeyes. In 1994, Cothran was drafted No. 66 overall in the third round of the NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played professionally from 1994-96. He is a member of the Middletown High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
