TRENTON —

For the Badin girls basketball team, the cast might be different but the stage remains the same.

No. 3 seed Badin forced 29 turnovers while outlasting No. 4 Preble Shawnee 52-47 Saturday at Edgewood High School to claim the its fourth straight Division III sectional title.

Annika Pater poured in a team-high 14 points, dished out five assists and notched five steals as Badin advanced to yet another district final, scheduled for next Saturday at Springfield High School against Anna at a time to be determined.

“We struggled with some nerves as we have a lot of young players playing their first big game,” BHS coach Tom Sunderman said. “But now there is no pressure, we can relax and just play. No doubt, we are going to Springfield to win but all the teams from here on out are supposed to win so we have no pressure at all.”

Badin used a big third quarter to pull away from the Arrows, with Stephanie Clark (eight points) and McKenzie Eagan (eight points) each tallying four points inside. The Rams outscored Preble Shawnee 15-7 to gain a 43-32 lead that didn’t dip below six the rest of the game.

“The biggest difference in the two halves is we finished in the second,” Sunderman said. “In the first half we went inside a lot but didn’t convert and in the second half we went inside and scored.”

Second in the Southwest Buckeye League, Preble Shawnee didn’t go away, cutting the gap to 47-41 with 4:02 left, but the Rams answered by patiently moving the ball around, taking almost two minutes off the clock before finding Kalli Riggins wide open underneath for a layup.

Adriana Moore had a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds while Courtney Lakes added 16 points and eight boards for the Arrows, who finished the season 17-7.

Early on, it appeared the Rams would run away with it, storming out to a 10-2 lead. But behind some clutch free-throw shooting, Preble Shawnee closed the gap to 12-11 at the first stop and trailed 28-25 at the break.

For the half, the Arrows hit 7-of-15 from the floor but nailed 11-of-13 from the foul line as Badin was whistled for 13 fouls.

The third quarter saw the Badin press back off but the Preble Shawnee turnovers increase. The Arrows finished the game with 29 turnovers.

“The game was being called extremely tight so we had to adjust,” Sunderman said. “We didn’t change that we wanted to wear them down but we did play more hands-off on defense.”

Badin, which improved to 12-12, also turned the ball over 24 times but managed to hit 21-of-46 from the field. Badin didn’t help its cause by hitting 6-of-15 from the charity stripe.

Torey Stang had nine points and pulled down seven rebounds for Badin.
