Fenwick accurate from long range over Oakwood

Fenwick used a barrage of baskets from beyond the arc to defeat Oakwood 62-34 in boys basketball on Friday.

Host Fenwick (1-0) connected on 11 3-point baskets, six of them by Taylor Umberger and three by Kevin Christie. Umberger finished with 18 points, Christie had 14, Frank Catrine added 12 and John Luke Arrington had 10.

Fenwick plays next at McNicholas on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Fairfield 54, Fairmont 35: Nick Braun connected on five 3-point baskets for 15 points and Herman Brunis tallied 17 for the visiting Indians (1-0).

New Miami 52, Madison 48: The Vikings (1-0) overcame a slow start to rally for a win against the Mohawks (0-1). Austin Morgan scored 18 points and Nick Mellott added 10 to pace New Miami. Thomas Hall had 17 points in a losing effort.

Franklin 64, Waynesville 41: Luke Kennard scored 28 points with 12 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (1-0). Travis Lakins added 17 points and Jeff Pierce had 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Middletown Christian 73, VLT Academy 52: Josh Hall connected on five 3-point buckets on his way to 26 points. The Eagles (1-0) shot 19-of-27 from the free throw line.

Springfield 67, Lebanon 53: Despite good performances from Ben Esposito and Bradd Ellis, the Warriors (0-1) couldn’t contain the balanced attack from Springfield that saw four players score in double figures. Esposito scored 24 points and Ellis had 10.

Ross 69, Goshen 46: Brandon Fernandez scored 29 points to lead the Rams (1-0).

Springboro 92, Shroder 53: Maverick Morgan scored 26 points and had 12 rebounds for the Panthers (1-0).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hamilton 62, Edgewood 43: Jillian Spurlock paced Hamilton with 28 points and 11 rebounds and Takyra Gilbert added 20 points. Maura Hackney led Edgewood with 15 points and 15 rebounds and Haley Rutherford scored 12.
