There are a lot of hopes and prayers from New York Jets fans that Tim Tebow will at least be the next Mark Sanchez.
Anyone willing to wager a ruptured mortgage on that happening? There’s always linebacker or tight end if playing quarterback doesn’t work out.
Here’s what is a sure thing: Tebow is the next Billy Graham, he just doesn’t know it.
Or perhaps he does. Here’s how he spent Easter Sunday: proselytizing to an estimated crowd of 15,000 to 20,000 of his newest best friends on a hillside at Georgetown, Texas. This was his message: Publicly share your faith.
That’s Evangelism 101. No one gets more attention about doing that than Mr. Knee Drop.
This football thing has served him well, through high school, college and now the NFL. But I sense it’s just a build-up for his life’s purpose. And that isn’t to wing left-handed forkballs into empty space.
I anointed Tebow genuine in his faith long ago. That’s a judgment call and only a hunch. Yours could be different.
He hasn’t cracked or even wobbled while proliferating his cause in ways unimaginable to Graham. Tebow has evolved on the Internet, cable/satellite TV and every social media. And he’s played a starring role in every new chapter.
Tebow to New York? Doesn’t make sense as a low-rated QB. Tebow the spiritual to NY? Whole different ball game.
Should he stay this course, whatever impact Tebow has in the NFL will be minimal compared with the masses that he could affect.
Here’s what we know: He’ll never approach the Hall of Fame stats and records that former boss John Elway amassed. But he has a good start in nearing the numbers that Graham put up.
