Ross grad notches weekly award

Centre College junior cornerback Casey Vatter was recently named Southern Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week.

The Ross High School graduate earned the football award for his Oct. 20 performance in a 31-14 victory over Trinity (Texas), collecting two interceptions and three tackles.

Vatter has 31 total tackles and three picks for the Colonels, who are 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the SAA. Senior defensive end Grant Poston (Lakota West) has 35 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Centre will host Birmingham Southern on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

• Senior tight end Andy Mick (Badin) has 16 catches for 228 yards and three touchdowns for Ohio Dominican, which is 6-3 overall and 5-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Freshman defensive lineman Breon Boyd (Hamilton) has played in six games, totaling five tackles and one fumble recovery. The Panthers will visit Lake Erie on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Women’s soccer

Freshman goalkeeper Nikki Hall (Ross) has started every game and helped Western Kentucky to an 11-4-3 record (6-1-3 in the Sun Belt Conference).

Hall has allowed just 16 goals for the Hilltoppers, who are seeded fourth in the Sun Belt tournament and will face No. 5 Arkansas State on Wednesday afternoon in Mobile, Ala.

Also for WKU, junior forward/defender Andrea Curry (Fairfield) has one goal and one assist while starting every game, while junior midfielder Kiersten Ottaway (Fairfield) has made 15 appearances and one start.

Volleyball

Freshman middle blocker Corri Muha (Lakota West) has 176 kills, 57 digs, 32 solo blocks and 64 block assists for Georgetown (Ky.), which is 29-3 overall and 13-0 in the Mid-South Conference.

The Tigers will visit Lindsey Wilson today at 8 p.m.
