BALL STATE CARDINALS AT MIAMI REDHAWKS

Records: Ball State 8-3, 5-2 MAC West; Miami 4-7, 3-4 MAC East

Series: Miami leads 16-10-1, though the Cardinals won the last meeting 31-16 on Nov. 11, 2008, in Oxford.

Last week: Ball State defeated Ohio 52-27; Miami lost to Central Michigan 30-16

Ball State stats: Quarterback Keith Wenning is 279 of 426 for 2,878 yards and 22 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. The top receivers are Willie Snead (76 catches, 1,000 yards, seven TDs), Jamill Smith (69 catches, 706 yards, six TDs) and Zane Fakes (51 catches, 404 yards, five TDs). The leading rushers are Jahwan Edwards (200 carries, 1,223 yards, 11 TDs) and Horactio Banks (86 carries, 505 yards, four TDs).

Miami stats: Quarterback Zac Dysert is 276 of 440 for 3,265 yards and 23 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. The top receivers are Andy Cruse (73 catches, 676 yards, six TDs), Nick Harwell (62 catches, 835 yards, eight TDs) and Dawan Scott (48 catches, 731 yards, six TDs). The leading rushers are Jamire Westbrook (86 carries, 339 yards, two TDs) and Dysert (97 carries, 223 yards, two TDs).

Cardinal at QB: Wenning will miss today’s game because of an ankle injury, with redshirt senior Kelly Page starting in his place. Page (5 of 7, 41 yards, two TDs) made his only appearance of the season last week against Ohio after Wenning got hurt.

Battle of the feet: Today’s game features two of the MAC’s most proficient place-kickers. Ball State’s Steven Schott is 23-of-28 on field goals and 44-of-45 on extra points, while Miami’s Kaleb Patterson is 14-of-17 on field goals and 20-of-22 on conversions.

Tough on the line: The Cardinals are ranked first in the Football Bowl Subdivision in least tackles for loss allowed (2.91 per game).

Zac in the MAC: Miami redshirt senior quarterback Zac Dysert ranks third in conference history in career passing yards (11,795) and can pass No. 2 Byron Leftwich of Marshall (11,903) today. The leader is Central Michigan’s Dan LeFevour (12,905).

Points and yards: Ball State is averaging 35.4 points and 481.2 yards per game. The Cardinals are also giving up 32.2 points and 472.4 yards per contest.

Harwell rising: Junior wide receiver Nick Harwell is tied for second with Martin Nance in career receiving yards (3,131) at MU. Ryne Robinson totaled 3,697 yards from 2003-06.

Tough opponents: Ball State’s losses came against Clemson (52-27), Kent State (45-43) and Northern Illinois (35-23). Those three teams are a combined 30-3.

Sitting it out: Miami cornerback Dayonne Nunley likely won’t play today because of a leg injury.
