CHICAGO —

Reggie Arceneaux didn’t start Tuesday, but Wright State coach Billy Donlon didn’t waste much time putting him into the game. The sophomore guard, who hadn’t played since suffering a concussion Feb. 12 against Valparaiso and only returned to practice on Sunday, came off the bench in the fourth minute.

Arceneaux played 22 minutes in a 60-55 loss to Illinois-Chicago at the UIC Pavilion. He only took two shots and finished with one point, two rebounds, two assists and four turnovers.

“I felt great, light on my feet,” he said. “I was probably a little rusty.”

Both point guards, Arceneaux and freshman Joe Bramanti, were on the floor at the same time for stretches late in the game. Bramanti had two points, an assist, four rebounds and no turnovers in 27 minutes.

Donlon said Arceneaux looked, “sluggish, about what you’d expect. He wanted to go out there and be Reggie, and he’s not ready for that yet.”

Versatile Yoho: Freshman J.T. Yoho still leads the Horizon League in 3-point shooting percentage (35-of-75, 46.6 percent). He was 1-of-5 on Tuesday.

But Yoho scored 16 points mostly by driving to the basket and posting up in the paint.

“I started off the year as a shooter,” he said. “I’ve been working on my driving game and my post-up game. People are closing on me hard, and I’m driving on them, which is making it easier on my game.”

Free throws: The Flames made 20-of-26 free throws in the first game against Wright State, a 55-49 victory on Jan. 26. In this game, they made 20-of-32. All 10 UIC players who saw action attempted at least two free throws, and their leading scorer on the season, Gary Talton, made 6-of-6.

“It’s hard,” Donlon said. “They’ve got a driver in Talton. They’ve got big guys. If you’re going to try to defend the 3-point line, you’re going to foul a little more. I think come tournament time, they’ll be some contact they’ll let go.”

Looking ahead: The Raiders (18-11, 9-6) host Youngstown State (16-13, 7-8) at 2 p.m. Saturday in the final regular-season game. Youngstown led Valpraiso by 13 points in the first half Tuesday, but lost 73-64.

Youngstown beat Wright State 68-61 on Jan. 23. The Penguins recently lost leading scorer Kendrick Perry (16.9 points per game) to a season-ending injury.

The Raiders have lost four of their last five games at home, but a win Saturday coupled with a Green Bay loss to Valparaiso would give the Raiders a share of third place and the third seed in the Horizon League tournament. The third seed goes straight to the quarterfinals, which will be played at Valparaiso on March 8.

Wright State has clinched at least the fourth seed. If it gets the fourth seed, it would host a first-round game on Tuesday.

“It’s really big,” Arceneaux said. “We’ve got to make it happen. We’ve got to move on.”

Around the league: Valparaiso clinched the top seed in the tournament with Tuesday’s victory and at least a share of first place.

Detroit beat Loyola 76-75 on Tuesday on a last-second layup by Jason Calliste. The Titans (19-10, 11-4) trail Valparaiso (23-7, 12-3) by one game. Detroit has clinched the No. 2 seed. The top two seeds get double byes into the semifinals.
