OXFORD —
The Miami University men’s basketball team is looking to gain some momentum.
The RedHawks are coming off a solid 72-59 victory at William & Mary on Wednesday and will face another Colonial Athletic Association foe, James Madison, this afternoon at Millett Hall.
Miami is 2-2, going loss, win, loss, win under first-year coach John Cooper, who could not be reached for comment Friday.
James Madison is 1-3, losing to UCLA (100-70), Duquesne (90-88 in overtime) and North Dakota State (66-44) while beating Youngstown State (69-68).
Matt Brady’s Dukes, based in Harrisonburg, Va., fell to N.D. State on Wednesday.
Rayshawn Goins, a 6-foot-6, 265-pound redshirt senior forward, is averaging 17.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for James Madison.
Two other Dukes are scoring in double digits: 6-5 freshman guard Andre Nation (11.0) and 6-5 senior guard Alioune Diouf (10.0).
James Madison’s opponents are shooting 52.8 percent from the field. The RedHawks’ opponents are shooting 50.5 percent.
The programs have met only once before, with the Dukes winning 70-69 at home in an ESPN BracketBuster game on Feb. 19, 2011.
Redshirt junior guard Allen Roberts (13.5), redshirt junior forward Bill Edwards (10.8) and freshman guard Reggie Johnson (9.3) are Miami’s leading scorers. The top two percentage shooters are redshirt junior forward Will Felder (50.0) and freshman guard Geovonie McKnight (47.4).
This is MU’s last home game until Dec. 22, when Illinois Chicago comes to Oxford. The RedHawks’ next four contests are against IPFW (next Saturday), Evansville (Dec. 5), Dayton (Dec. 8) and Wright State (Dec. 19).
