Area standout key player for Miami volleyball

Christina Menche is among the top players this season for Miami University’s volleyball team.

The senior outside/middle hitter, a Hamilton High School graduate, has 98 kills, 39 blocks, seven aces and three assists for the RedHawks, who are 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-American Conference.

MU returns to action at Bowling Green on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Men’s soccer

Junior defender Alex Oliver (Ross) has played in every game and made eight starts for Findlay, which is 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Oilers will travel to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Friday at 5 p.m.

Women’s soccer

Junior defender Lauren Marcum (Fairfield) has started every game but one for Findlay, which stands 2-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Oilers will visit Lake Erie on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.

Women’s golf

Freshman Ali Green (Lakota West) and sophomore Abby Tepe (Lakota East) helped Ashland capture the Gilda’s Club Laker Invitational championship over the weekend at Grand Valley State.

The Eagles bested California (Pa.) by one stroke for the title. Green was seventh with a two-day total of 160, and Tepe tied for eighth with a 161.

Ashland will compete at the Findlay Invitational on Sunday and Monday.

Cross country

Freshman Amanda Shelby (Lakota West) set a school record for the Mount St. Joseph women’s program at the All-Ohio Championships last Saturday in Cedarville.

Shelby recorded a time of 19:11 in the 5K race, finishing 23rd in the Division III standings. Shelby’s time was 24 seconds better than the previous record, which she set three weeks earlier at the Hanover College Invitational.

The Lions’ No. 2 finisher at the All-Ohio event was senior Cyreesa Raber (Lakota East) with a time of 23:49.
