Popular Hamilton restaurant serving up its specialty on Pi Day

Math lovers get excited for National Pi Day, a celebration that happens on March 14 — or 3.14 — each year.

But for most, the best way to celebrate the math fun is to grab a slice of pie at a local restaurant.

The Journal-News stopped by Hyde’s Restaurant in Hamilton, which has been delighting the palate of pie lovers for decades, to see how Pi Day was being celebrated.

Tarin Lauer, Audrey Amburgy, and co-owner Amy Hyde-Klaiber were busy slicing up some coconut, apple and banana cream pie slices for many of the customers who came ready with an appetite, but not quite a math party in mind.

“People like their routines and we have a dedicated following that comes in each day for some pie,” Hyde-Klaiber said. “We have a daily pie special and do banana (pie) each day.”

One patron had his own idea of how to combine the celebration of Pi Day with pie.

“Just hit me in the face with one of those pies and I’ll celebrate,” he said with a laugh.
