OVI patrol nets 1 arrest plus gun charge

The Butler County OVI Task Force’s checkpoint in Monroe Friday didn’t result in any OVI arrests.

However, the saturation patrol near the checkpoint at 6262 Hamilton-Middletown Road, Ohio 4, did have one OVI arrest with a felony charge for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, according to Pete Reisling, Butler County OVI Task Force coordinator.

Reisling said the preliminary results recorded 603 vehicles passed through the checkpoint on Ohio 4 north Friday night, with seven vehicles diverted for further investigation. He said there were a couple of misdemeanor citations for marijuana possession and paraphernalia issued Friday night.

Agencies participating in the checkpoint have until Tuesday to submit their finalized report to Reisling. He said agencies participating in Friday’s checkpoint included the Ohio Highway Patrol, Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe, Middletown and West Chester police departments.

Reisling said the county OVI Task Force tries to have a checkpoint each month which is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Ohio Department of Public Safety. The OVI checkpoints are used to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The checkpoints are used with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes, according to the highway patrol.

Local police advises if you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink.
