An e-commerce retailer of home furnishings is expanding its Warren County operations with a new fulfillment center expected to create more than 100 new full-time jobs.

Hayneedle was awarded a 2.062 percent, six-year for tax incentive Monday by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.

That will allow the company to construct a new 994,000-square-foot distribution center at 600 Gateway Blvd. in Monroe.

The massive expansion of Hayneedle’s Warren County presence is expected to create 104 new full-time jobs, generating $3.2 million in new annual payroll and helping the company retain 80 jobs, or about $2.7 million in existing payroll, according to the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.

“Real estate tax abatement and job tax credits were both factors in our decision, along with a combination of centralized location for U.S. e-commerce logistics, availability of experienced staff, operating costs and strong support from the State of Ohio and the city of Monroe,” said Tom Clement, the company’s vice president of operations.

The hiring of associates at all skill and experience levels begins immediately and the new facility will open and receive its first shipment in June, Clement said.

Monroe City Manager Bill Brock said Hayneedle’s decision to locate a second logistics facility in Monroe “speaks volumes” about the quality of Monroe’s workforce, the partnership between the company and the city and the value of doing business in southwest Ohio.

“Hayneedle consistently exceeds growth expectations, and we look forward to the new job opportunities they are creating for the region,” Brock said.

Developed by Atlanta-based IDI Gazeley at its Park North at Monroe project, the new Hayneedle location was selected with “a long-term view” and will be the company’s third overall and its second in Monroe, he said. It will increase the company’s national fulfillment footprint to more than 2 million square feet, Clement said.

The new facility is located just five miles from Hayneedle’s existing Monroe facility, which opened in 2010 in Monroe at 500,000 square feet with 45 employees. It’s now in a 721,000-square-feet space with 120 employees.

Founded in 2002, Omaha, Neb.-based Hayneedle employs more than 800 people nationwide.

The company continues to invest in existing facilities, as evidenced by an investment in additional storage capacity this past year, Clement said.

“As the new facility ramps up, we will balance the staff growth across both operations,” he said. “The existing facility remains a core component of our network plans.”
