MIDDLETOWN —

Seven people are responsible for two thefts at big box retailers in the city’s East End.

Early Monday morning, five men and two women stole more than 164 movies and a Sony Blu-Ray player from Walmart, 2900 Towne Blvd.

According to police, the seven were concealing multiple movies inside their clothing, and one of the seven hid the Blu-Ray player.

The total reported value of the items stolen was $4,174.48.

A few minutes later and a mile and a half south, the group walked into Kohl’s, 3651 Towne Blvd.

One of the women walked into the store with a stereo in a cart and headed toward the electronics section to talk with an employee about the product.

During this conversation, one of the men concealed a set of headphones, valued at $50.

The two headed for the exit, the woman in the lead. When she was stopped, the man walked out the door with the headphones.

This group is also responsible for other thefts, said Middletown police Lt. Scott Reeve.

“It’s not just Middletown either,” he said. “They’ve hit a bunch of stores in the area.”

Reeve said their crime sprees go beyond Butler and Warren counties.
