SOUTHWEST OHIO —

Precipitation that is falling in parts of the Miami Valley tonight will be confined to areas well north of Interstate 70, and no road problems are anticipated until after midnight — if at all — because of the mild weather that visited the area Monday afternoon, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said.

What will begin tonight as light rain in spots will change to light snow, he said, but temperatures throughout the area are expected to remain above freezing through at least 11 p.m.

Overnight, light snow will gradually slide south, but may never really move much farther south than the Dayton area, Simpson said. The light snow won’t taper off in the Dayton and Springfield areas until about 3 a.m. or 4 a.m., but temperatures also may never fall below freezing along the I-70 corridor and points south until the snow does end.

It is doubtful anyone from I-70 south sees any snow stick, Simpson said.

There will be an area, likely U.S. 36 and points north, that could have light snow falling at the same time temperatures are below freezing and that is where a coating could result and possibly create some slick spots on untreated road surfaces.

“The moisture is very limited for this weaker system coming in from the west,” Simpson said. “That will keep snow very light for most.”

Any flakes will be long gone by sunrise and any lingering clouds southeast early Tuesday will quickly give way to sun.

Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the low-30s far south to the mid-20s far north.
