SHARONVILLE —

A West Chester Twp. man was arrested Sunday after allegedly being found in possession of a pound of marijuana.

Qualin L. Daniel, 23, of Wyndtree Drive was arrested around 9 p.m. Feb. 3 after troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol spotted a disabled vehicle on southbound Interstate 75 and stopped to help the man, said Lt. J.J. Tibbs.

“It’s normal for patrol to check on the safety of people on the interstate,” Tibbs said.

But troopers observed a 9mm handgun on the passenger seat and reported a smell of marijuana after approaching the 1994 Ford Tempo near milepost 16 in Sharonville, Tibbs said.

A probable cause search revealed a pound of hydroponic marijuana in the truck of the car and the pistol was loaded with 15 rounds, Tibbs said.

“He had been legally carrying (the gun), his concealed carry permit permits him to carry it,” Tibbs said. “But not with the commission of a felony.”

On Sunday, Daniel was incarcerated in the Hamilton County Justice Center and charged with possession of marijuana, a fifth-degree felony, and possession of weapons under disability, a third-degree felony.

The street value of the marijuana is $4,500, Tibbs said. If convicted, he could face up to six years in prison and up to a $12,500 fine.
