Following a short foot chase, local police agencies nabbed a Cincinnati man and seized $14,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine Wednesday in Fairfield.

Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics Task Force agents and Fairfield police stopped Brian A. Thurmond, 33, of Cincinnati, on Ohio 4 just south of Symmes Road in Fairfield at around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

While law enforcement tried to interview Thurmond, he “suddenly bolted from custody” a release stated. He was apprehended nearby and arrested. He allegedly had 2 ounces of heroin and about a quarter-ounce of crack cocaine.

Police seized the drugs, valued at $14,000 and the 1996 Chrysler LHS he was driving.

He has been charged with five felony drug counts, felonious assault against a police officer and obstructing official business.

Sheriff Richard Jones lauded the joint efforts of the task force and police.

“Once again, we get a drug arrest involving heroin,” Jones said. “It seems it truly is becoming the poison of choice. Good job by the task force members — a nice teamwork effort by all. It’s great to use joint resources to take down the bad guys.”
