Solicitation

By Mary McCarty

Staff Writer

A rape case involving two standout high school football players and a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville, Ohio, has drawn international attention to the role that social media can play in the criminal investigation. The crime came to light as a result of Twitter posts, videos and photographs posted on the Web by teens seemingly oblivious to the seriousness of a sexual assault accusation. The crime is raising concerns about the role of social media in teens’ lives. We want to hear from readers who have wrestled with this issue. Do you have a child or family member who has gotten into trouble as a result of something they posted online? Please contact reporter Mary McCarty at 225-2209 or mmccarty@coxohio.com by Thursday, Jan. 10.
