Police reports: Resident reports identity theft tax fraud

Feb. 9

A resident in the 2800 block of Dixie Highway told police that after buying a pre-paid $50 gift card, it was declined when she tried to use it.

Between Feb. 7 and Feb. 9, someone attempted to set a house on fire in the 600 block of South Fourth Street by igniting charcoal, paper and foil. The fire charred the back door and window but was not able to spread.

Between Dec. 1 and Feb. 9, someone used a BB gun to shoot at three windows in the 1400 block of Parrish Avenue. Damage from the holes caused by the BBs was listed at $450.

Someone used the personal information of two residents in the 600 block of St. Clair Avenue to file a false tax return before Feb. 9. The victim received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service charging him a $5,000 penalty for this frivolous tax return being filed.

Rent-A-Center, 2524 Dixie Highway, told police that a person took possession of more than $3,000 in furniture and never made a payment.

A resident in the 1200 block of Azel Avenue gave his debit card to a person to make a cash withdrawal of $20 plus the $2 service fee on Feb. 6. However, when he checked the account online, the person took out $100.

A break-in was reported between Feb. 2 and Feb. 9 in the 100 block of Pershing Avenue. The lock was cut off of the cellar door and vent covers, sink faucets, the top of the stove were stolen and there was damage to the ceiling.

An assault was reported between 7 and 7:20 p.m. in the 300 block of Millikin Street.

A door and deadbolt lock were damaged between 6 and 8 p.m. at an apartment in the 0 to 100 block of Beth Lane.

Miscellaneous hand tools were stolen from a garage between 2 and 9 p.m. in the 300 block of Haldimand Avenue.

A man reported being stabbed in the leg about 2 a.m. in the 1000 block of Heaton Street.

A purse, boots and cologne were stolen between 1 and 2 p.m. Feb. 8 from the 1000 block of St. Clair Avenue.

A break-in was reported between Jan. 30 and Feb. 6 in the 700 block of 14th Street. Copper lines were cut and removed in the kitchen and the copper was cut and removed from the water heater. The front door was damaged in the break-in.
