Man arrested in township stabbing

By Eric Robinette

Officers have arrested a Fairfield Twp. man on charges that he stabbed a woman in a Fairfield Twp. home Tuesday.

At approximately 4:56 a.m., township police responded to a report of an assault that took place at the 6300 block of Windlake Court, said Police Chief Richard St. John.

Officers found that the victim, 25-year old Courtney Bower of Hamilton, had lacerations on her hands and puncture wounds to her neck. The suspect, identified as 22-year old Austin Drake, allegedly attacked her with a knife while they were in the basement.

A person was able to pull Austin off of Bower while another person called 911. Alcohol was located at the scene; however, the motive is unknown, police said. All parties present say there was no argument leading up to the incident.

Drake has a history of violence, with police responding to calls about him at least four times since 2011, typically for alcohol-related offenses, according to township police reports. He has previous arrests for disorderly conduct and domestic violence.

Bower was transported to the Atrium Medical Center in Middletown and spoke with officers there. Her injuries weren’t believed to be life-threatening, St. John said.

Drake was arrested, charged with felonious assault and transported to the Butler County Jail, where he remains on $50,000 bond. The charge may be upgraded pending consultation with the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office. He is scheduled to appear at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Butler County Area II Court.
