Police in West Monroe La., have arrested a fugitive from Texas wanted for capital murder and rescued the man’s 4-year-old son, Tyler, Texas, police said.
Middletown police relayed the alert early Thursday to area law enforcement because the fugitive, 41-year-old James Calvert, may have been headed to Waynesville, according to police and fire radio communications.
West Monroe police attempted to pull over a gray, Buick LeSabre bearing Texas plates on Wednesday evening. The vehicle did not stop and a pursuit began. Officers followed the vehicle down a dead-end road where “it wrecked out,” according to a news release.
Officers had to force entry into the vehicle and took the driver into custody. Police noticed a small boy in the rear seat. The boy was identified as Lucas Calvert, the man’s son, who police said had been abducted from his home in Tyler.
West Monroe police also recovered two weapons from Calvert’s vehicle.
James Calvert is accused of fatally shooting his former wife, Jelena Radobanovic Sriraman, and kidnapping their son. Her body was found under a carport outside a home where she was staying in South Central Tyler, police said.
