Friends, employees and clients of the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities will strap on their dancing shoes Saturday night for the second annual Dancing for our Stars event in Fairfield.

The fundraiser styled after television’s “Dancing with the Stars” will feature 10 couples competing for the coveted mirror ball trophy, said Wendy Planicka, BCDD public relations coordinator.

“Everyone loved it last year. We were going to take a year off and schedule it for next year, but we had people asking right away who would be dancing next,” Planicka said.

There are no judges and Planicka is crafting the trophy herself. The winner is chosen by who gets the most votes that come with a monetary pledge, both online and by credit card and checks on the night of the event.

The event will be held at Receptions in Fairfield, 5975 Boymel Drive, and is sold out. In fact, Planicka said they are adding tables to accommodate 380 people, which is 30 more than they originally had space for.

All proceeds go to the board’s citizens with disabilities fund, which pays for promotion of levy campaigns.

This year’s couples will dance everything from the salsa and waltz to hip hop and the Texas two step. Those couples are:

Jean Sparks and Jack Dostie, Anne Miller and Jonathan McDowell, Carla Piazza and Andrew Watson, Chrissy Perkins and Doug Kleine, Heida Powers and Mitch Snyder, AJ and Tony Huff, Debbie Gulley and Jim Burns, Laura Brown and Joe Brannon and Cori Mobley and Christopher Carter. There will also be a special performance by Elizabeth Crehan and Mike Berding.
