Lakota’s Woodland Elementary School has been selected as an “NFL PLAY 60 Super School” and will get a visit from local NFL players in November.

The NFL announced more than 30 schools nationwide to become “super schools” for showing NFL spirit and dedication to youth health and wellness, according to a press release Tuesday.

With the designation comes a $10,000 grant for health and wellness programming or equipment, and a visit from Cincinnati Bengals players Nov. 13 at Woodland Elementary, 6923 Dutchland Parkway, Liberty Twp.

NFL PLAY 60 is the National Football League’s campaign to encourage kids to be active for 60 minutes a day in order to help reverse the trend of childhood obesity.

Winning schools were selected based on their ability to display their passion for their favorite NFL teams; excitement for the upcoming season; and how they incorporate the NFL into curriculum, according to the NFL.

During the visit from the Cincinnati Bengals, players will help the students get 60 minutes of exercise as part of the NFL PLAY 60 youth health and wellness campaign. As well, NFL Network and its affiliates will provide each winning school district with the opportunity to win an additional $10,000 grant through the Keep Gym in School program.

Since the program launched in 2007, the NFL has committed more than $250 million to youth health and fitness through programming, grants and media time for public service announcements.
