HAMILTON —

A homeowner faced minor injuries Sunday while trying to extinguish a blaze at his home.

Hamilton fire crews responded around 4 p.m. Sunday to a structure fire at 302 Michael Ave. Deputy Chief Jeff Shaw said the cause of the fire, which started in a utility closet, was due to the erosion of electrical wiring over time.

Four engines, two medic units, a tower truck and the shift commander were on scene for two hours containing the blaze, Shaw said.

The homeowner sustained a burn to his hand while using a portable fire extinguisher to contain the blaze, Shaw said. No firefighters were injured.

Damages are estimated at $25,000; and four people were displaced, according to Shaw.
