Fairfield man indicted for December fatal crash

By Lauren Pack

HAMILTON —

A Fairfield man has been indicted on a felony charge for allegedly driving impaired in a December crash that killed a passenger in his pickup truck.

Zachary Kreke, 27, of 3051 Woodside Drive, was indicted Wednesday by a Butler County grand jury on two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony, and two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Assistant County Prosecutor Kelly Heile said the charges carry a maximum prison sentence of eight years in prison.

Kreke was behind the wheel when the pickup truck crashed into the back of a semitrailer on Ohio 4 in Fairfield during the early morning hours of Dec. 30, according to Fairfield police.

Robert D. Gilreath, 27, of Hamilton, Kreke’s passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kreke waived a preliminary hearing in Fairfield Municipal Court on Jan. 10 and the case was automatically sent to the grand jury for consideration. Bond was set at $25,000 and he remains housed at the Butler County Jail where he was booked in a day after the crash.

An arraignment on the indictment is schedueld for Feb. 12 before Butler County Commom Pleas Judge Charles Pater.
