Event to showcase area businesses

By Eric Schwartzberg

FAIRFIELD —

A Fairfield Chamber of Commerce event this week aims to highlight the local business community to both business people and the community at large.

The chamber is scheduled to hold its annual Business Showcase from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Receptions Conference Center, 5975 Boymel Drive. The event features more than 100 booths highlighting businesses from retail, health care and banking to dining, education and various service industries and government entities.

“The key is to get the business community to see the value of coming out and … not only networking with all of these businesses, but also see what these businesses have as services available to them,” said Kert Radel, the chamber’s president and CEO. “It’s also an opportunity for a business person to go to the showcase and … show them about their business.”

Richards Pizza and Brown’s Deli will provide food during the event, which includes a multitude of vendors that appeal to the masses, not just those who own or operate a business, he said.

“They’re able to shop where they have, in essence, more than 100 businesses under one roof, and they can go vendor to vendor and get information,” Radel said.

To enhance the event’s “Business of Tailgating” theme, the showcase will be preceded by an 11:30 a.m. luncheon that features third-year Xavier men’s basketball coach Chris Mack. Chamber members and non-members may attend for $30.

“He’s talking about how to build success, whether it’s a sports team or a business,” Radel said.

Mack will sign autographs immediately following the luncheon. Door prizes, including gas cards and a Bengals party catered by Brown’s Deli in one’s home, will be given away. Former Bengals kicker Jim Breech may also attend the party, depending on his availability, Radel said.

A Taste of Fairfield occurs during the showcase from 4 to 6 p.m. and provides a way for event attendees to sample the various culinary specials of area eateries.

M&G Body Shop owner and CEO Linda Weil said she booked a booth at the showcase for the past several years because it offers “a lot of positive exposure to the area.”

“Two years ago, as I was closing up from the show, a customer literally followed me back to my business and I got a job literally that night,” Weil said. “I have gotten a lot of business from that expo. I’ve more than paid for that booth 10 times over with just paid business within a couple of weeks of the show.”
