FAIRFIELD —

A driver involved in a fatal DUI accident appeared in Fairfield Municipal Court Wednesday morning, with no bond being set for the defendant.

Zachary Kreke, 27, of Fairfield was ordered to be held in Butler County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear again in court Jan. 10 for a preliminary hearing, a court spokeswoman said.

Robert D. Gilreath, 27, of Hamilton, was Kreke’s passenger in a pickup truck that reportedly crashed into the back of a semitrailer around 1:20 a.m. Sunday on Ohio 4, according to Fairfield police

Gilreath was pronounced dead at the scene. Kreke was traveling south on Ohio 4 at Camelot Drive when he rear-ended the semitrailer also traveling southbound, police said.

Kreke was treated at University Hospital in Cincinnati, and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide upon his release, according to police. The driver of the semitrailer, Robert Harding, was not injured in the crash.
