Sheriff sends letters to candidates, officials urging immigration reform

Staff Report

Two days after the U.S. Supreme Court’s split decision on Arizona’s stiff, controversial immigration law, Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones is urging support for new Ohio laws.

Jones sent letters Wednesday to several high-profile political figures, including presidential candidate Mitt Romney, asking for support as he and Ohio Rep. Courtney Combs (R-Hamilton) push for legislation in Ohio that would limit the work force U.S. citizens and provide authority for local law enforcement to “stop with probable cause and inquire as to legal status.

In addition to Romney, letters have been sent Governor John R. Kasich, U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-West Chester Twp.) and U.S. Senator Rob Portman.

In his letters, Jones said “This is the time to stand up, say and do what needs to be done to secure jobs for Ohioans, and all United States citizens.”
