Butler County fugitive found in South Dakota

HAMILTON — Once found, one of Butler County’s “Most Wanted” didn’t have far to travel to the jail.

After police officers in Watertown, S.D., arrested Adam Robert Lane, 26, last known address in Fairfield, Friday morning, he was transported from his home to the Codington County Detention Center, a two-block trip. He is awaiting extradition back to Butler County.

Watertown police officer Josh Kerfien said he arrested Lane at his home on First Street in Watertown where he was living with his fiancee. Kerfien said Lane told him he had lived in Watertown since 2010 and worked in a local grocery store.

An arrest warrant was issued in January 2011 for Lane for a probation violation on an underlying 2005 felony burglary case out of Ross Twp., said Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones. He said the sheriff’s office fugitive investigators have been looking for him since.

Jones said recently investigators developed information that Lane was residing in Watertown and that information was relayed to local law enforcement in Watertown.

Kerfien was sent to where Lucas lived, knocked on the door and Lane answered the door.

He was arrested without incident, Kerfien said.

“Once again we have shown that you might run, but just can’t hide very long from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office,” Jones said.
