He’s been in movies, had a special on Comedy Central and received a standing ovation on “The Tonight Show. On Saturday, stand-up comedian Drew Hastings, who also is Hillsboro’s mayor, will appear at a fundraiser Saturday at the Courtyard by Marriott Hamilton.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Teen Response, a nonprofit that operates in Butler and Hamilton counties as well as in Northern Kentucky.

Shawn Stidham, the hotel’s sales director, hopes to bring more national acts to the hotel as a way to draw crowds to downtown Hamilton.

He worked with John Keuffer to bring Hastings to Hamilton.

Keuffer is a former police officer who founded Teen Responses in 1992, an organization that caters to underprivileged children and helps them with self-esteem, leadership skills and becoming involved with community service. .

Hastings, 58, is an imposing person standing at 6 feet 6 inches tall who dresses in a black suit and black horn-rimmed glasses as he shares his observations on the human condition. He became a stand-up comedian at age 31.

Born in Morocco and raised in Ohio by a British mother, he has lived and performed in Los Angeles in television and in the movies and is a regular guest on the “Bob and Tom Radio Show.” Hastings has been a headliner on “The Bob and Tom Comedy All-stars Tour.”

He operates a cattle farm in southern Ohio and was elected Hillsboro’s mayor in 2011.

Keuffer said about 100 tickets have been sold as of Thursday morning and said the goal was to sell 150 to 200 tickets with an eye of keeping the event intimate.
