HAMILTON —

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra will make a rare appearance in Hamilton this weekend as Music Director Laureate Paavo Järvi conducts Schumann’s Overture to Genovena and Brahm’s Symphony No. 2.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our community to hear a world famous orchestra directed by a world class conductor in Hamilton High’s Auditorium, which is a fairly intimate setting,” said said Laurin Sprague, director of fine arts for Hamilton City Schools. “This is the first time that the Cincinnati Symphony has performed in Hamilton, so we are very fortunate for them to provide us with this rare occasion.

“This is also one of the few remaining times that Paavo Järvi will be directing the Symphony,” Sprague said.

In the 2010-11 season, Järvi completed a highly successful 10-year tenure with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, leaving behind him a legacy of extensive touring and a discography of sixteen CDs for Telarc.

Järvi is now in his third season as music director of the Orchestre de Paris, a contract which was recently extended until the end of the 2015-16 season.

The Hamilton High School Symphony Orchestra will open the concert with a short work conducted by CSO Associate Conductor, Robert Trevino.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to see what it is like to work at the professional level,” said cellist Logan Fox, a senior at Hamilton High. “Getting to work with Associate Conductor Robert Trevino allows us to experience a different conducting style and helps us to perform at a higher level.”

“This concert also raises the awareness of our orchestra program in the city of Hamilton, which is important to students,” Fox said.
