Cincinnati’s downtown casino is set to open Monday, March 4, operators Rock Ohio Caesars announced Wednesday.

Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati will be the fourth casino to open in Ohio within a year. Horseshoe Casino Cleveland, owned by the same company operating the Cincinnati casino, was the first to open in May of this year.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission approved the opening date Wednesday.

Hollywood Casino Toledo opened at the end of May. And Hollywood Casino Columbus opened in October. Development of “racinos,” or racetracks with slot machines, is moving ahead in Warren County and in Dayton.

Construction on the $400 million Cincinnati casino off Broadway Street is in its final stages, casino owners said.

“We expect final work inside and out to wrap up next month,” said Steve Rosenthal, a principal of Rock Gaming and a leader on the casino’s design and construction team, in a statement. Rock Gaming LLC and Caesars Entertainment Corp. formed the joint venture Rock Ohio Caesars.

“To date, more than 2,000 construction workers have contributed to make this development a first-class destination,” Rosenthal said.

The final round of hiring for the casino was announced earlier this month. All jobs available are posted online at www.horseshoecincinnati.com. When enough applications are received for a particular position, it will be removed from the site.

More than 100 people have been hired on to staff so far, said Jennifer Kulczycki, spokeswoman for Rock Gaming. Hiring will continue to ramp up until the March opening. Ultimately, the casino will employ approximately 1,700 full- and part-time workers.

Horseshoe Cincinnati will have 2,000 slot machines, 85 table games and a 31-table World Series of Poker room. There will be three outward facing restaurants, according to the company. A buffet restaurant, a quick-casual eatery, a VIP players lounge, a coffee shop and a feature bar will also be part of the casino. It is located on 23 acres, with a parking garage.

Once open, it will be a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week operation, said Jennifer Kulczycki, spokeswoman for Rock Gaming.
