The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning women that a large number of them are binge drinking and that such activity can lead to other health dangers.

In a study the organization published this month, the CDC reported that about one in eight adult women fit the criteria for binge drinking, which is defined as consuming four or more alcoholic drinks on an occasion. Women surveyed were asked if such activity had occurred in the past 30 days.

The percentage of binge drinkers increases to one in five among high school females, the CDC said.

The CDC stressed that such activity has other health dangers, including increasing the possibility of breast cancer, heart disease, sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancy.

An analysis of statistics shows that the percentage of women who have reported fitting the criteria of binge drinking has increased steadily since 1995 in both Ohio and nationally.
