A barn and much of its contents were destroyed in a fire Wednesday, but two dogs in the structure were safely removed by firefighters.
Forty firefighters from five fire departments responded shortly before 7 p.m. to the property in the 10000 block of Greenbush Road.
No one was injured, but a medic was on hand to provide care for firefighters in the cold, said West Elkton Fire Chief Michael Roberts.
The roof collapsed on the structure soon after firefighters arrived, Roberts said.
Crews were able to rescue the two dogs and pushed one of two vehicles in the barn to safety, but a boat and a second vehicle as well as other items inside it were destroyed.
Roberts determined the barn a total loss and estimated the damage to the structure and its contents at $50,000. The cause is being listed as undetermined, he said.
