Hamilton —
Three of six people who were injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon at Knightsbridge Drive and University Boulevard on Hamilton’s East Side were flown by three medical helicopters to University Hospital in Cincinnati.
The crash happened around 3 p.m. when a Pepsi delivery truck rear-ended a red, older model Nissan Sentra, carrying six occupants, according to Sgt. Brian Robinson, patrol supervisor with the Hamilton Police Department, and Deputy Fire Chief Troy Pugh. Both vehicles were eastbound on Knightsbridge at the time of the crash, Robinson said.
Police have not yet released the names of those involved in the crash. Some family members of those injured were in the process of being contacted while some other family members were at the scene, Robinson said.
Pugh said the other three occupants in the car were transported by ambulance to Fort Hamilton and Mercy hospitals after they were extricated by firefighters using the Jaws of Life.
He said none of the injured people appeared to have life-threatening injuries, but three were flown by helicopter because of the risk of possible internal injuries.
The driver of the Pepsi truck was not injured and was being interviewed along with other witnesses by police at the scene. Police have not said whether any charges will be filed.
The crash snarled traffic at the intersection of Knightsbridge and University, which remains blocked off while police complete their investigation. The truck and the car have both been towed from the scene.
