RightSource, Humana Inc.’s mail order pharmacy service, is bringing 200 new full-time jobs to southwest Ohio over the next three months.

RightSource plans to hire about 40 to 50 people for its West Chester Twp. distribution center and 150 to 160 for its Springdale offices, according to Humana spokesman Jeff Blunt.

Positions available include entry-level inventory management, and shipping and packaging jobs with salaries starting in the high $20,000 to low $30,000 range; pharmacy technician positions starting in the $35,000 to $40,000 range; and pharmacist positions expected to pay six-figure salaries, according to the company.

Humana, a Louisville, Ky.-based insurance company, opened its West Chester Twp. facility in 2008.

Employment there dropped from 500 to 200 workers since last year when Humana moved 300 RightSource employees into its new Springdale offices to gain more space for call center and customer service operations, Blunt said.

“Since then, we’re up to about 240 in West Chester,” he said.

This is the third major local employment announcement from Humana in the last five years as the company, which is ranked 79th in the Fortune 500, has grown its national membership. By early 2013, Humana will have expanded from less than 800 employees at one location to 2,200 employees at three locations in the Greater Cincinnati area.

“As Humana continues to grow in membership, that membership is continuing to see the value, convenience and quality of mail order pharmacy service, so they continue to use mail service in higher and higher numbers, which is good news for us,” said Alan Martin, general manager of operations for RightSource in Ohio. “As Humana grows, we will continue to grow.”

Formed in 2006, RightSource is filling 20 percent more prescriptions year over year and will continue to explore new product lines, including diabetic supplies for non-Humana members, Martin said.

“That drives more dispensing needs and more jobs here,” he said. “As we continue to expand our lines of business, both here and Springdale will continue to grow and add associates.”

Adding jobs along the Cincinnati-Dayton corridor is a strategic move that will allow RightSource to better serve the area’s growing health care needs and utilize a “willing and ready” local workforce, said Joe Hinson, president and CEO of the West Chester-Liberty Chamber Alliance.

“If you think about their proximity to their corporate office in Louisville and what has happened here with the growth of the corridor focusing on health care and the growth of population, you’re talking about our region from I-70 to 275 in Kentucky, you’re talking about more than 3 million people,” Hinson said. “They’ve got a great location, easy access, plus a good, educated workforce to draw from here with a lot of the educational institutions now tilting toward the health care arena.”

RightSource is also having a job fair for pharmacy tech and pharmacist positions from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at their Springdale offices, 111 Merchant St., Springdale.
