Former Middletown council member Joe Mulligan (left) and newcomer Ami Vitori won the race for two open seats on Middletown City Council.

Newcomer Ami Vitori was the leading vote-getter for one of two open seats on Middletown City Council.

Vitori received 33.8 percent of the vote in Butler County for a four-year term and just under 33.5 percent of the vote in Warren County, according to unofficial results.

Former councilman Joe Mulligan was elected to a new four-year term after completing his previous term two years ago. Mulligan received 31.6 percent of the vote in Butler County and 32.7 percent in Warren County, according to unofficial results.

“I’m so excited to be the top vote-getter,” Vitori said. “I think it’s a testimony to people who are excited about the future of Middletown. People appreciate what I have done in downtown Middletown.”

Vitori’s takeaway from the election is her belief that people in Middletown are paying attention and have seen what has been going on. She said she wants to bring a new perspective and sees the challenges Middletown is facing as opportunities for success.

“They believe I can deliver,” she said. “I think people are looking for change.”

Mulligan said he was “grateful for the opportunity to serve again.”

He said he ran on a platform of leadership focusing on fiscal responsibility, being a good ambassador for the city to the region, making Middletown more attractive for families and businesses, and keeping local government accountable.

Incumbent Vice Mayor Dora Bronston lost her seat on council and was a distant third with nearly 20.8 percent of the vote in Butler County and 14.8 percent in Warren County.

She was followed by newcomer Mark Barker with 8.3 percent in Butler County and 11.3 percent in Warren County Butler County.

Roy Gordon received 5.34 percent of the vote in Butler County and 7.72 percent in Warren County.
