Meijer to add Wahlburgers restaurants at some Ohio stores

Wahlburgers restaurants — the burger chain co-owned by actor Mark Wahlberg and his brothers — are coming to some Meijer stores in Ohio, a Meijer official confirmed to this news outlet.

A Wahlburgers release announced "new restaurant sites to be located on out lots near various Meijer stores" located in Michigan and Ohio. Wahlburgers also will bring its new food trucks to "select" Meijer locations, the burger chain's officials said in a release.

Meijer is “currently in early stages of planning regarding potential locations,” Meijer Public Relations Manager Joe Hirschmugl told this news outlet via email. The restaurants will be built outside of Meijer stores, not inside, Hirschmugl said.

Wahlburgers — which is owned brothers Mark, boy-band heartthrob Donnie Wahlberg and chef Paul Wahlberg — operates one restaurant in Ohio, in Cleveland, and has a second one in the works in downtown Cincinnati.

The news of the restaurants broke as part of a broader announcement that Performance Inspired Nutrition (PI) will begin offering its sports-nutrition and active-lifestyle products at all locations of the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer, which operates multiple stores in southwest and west-central Ohio.

PI co-founder Mark Wahlberg said in a release that a portion of Performance Inspired’s net profits go to charity each year, “and we are looking forward to getting involved with Meijer’s philanthropic programs.”

Boston-based Wahlburgers was founded in 2011 and operates 21 restaurants across the U.S.
